Call for Proposals

IUPUI Campus, Indianapolis Downtown

The Call for Proposal deadline has passed.

I would like to extend to you and your colleagues an invitation to join us for the 2014 Assessment Institute in Indianapolis October 19 - 21, 2014.  Please consider submitting a proposal by March 28.  We would be particularly pleased to receive proposals addressing any of the topics listed in the bullet points below. 

We will feature special track plenary sessions and workshops emphasizing assessment in:

  • ePortfolios – Coordinators:  Susan Kahn and Susan Scott, IUPUI
  • Faculty Development Coordinator:   Megan Palmer, IUPUI
  • Global Learning – Coordinators:  Gil Latz and Dawn Whitehead, IUPUI, and Darla Deardorff, Duke University
  • Graduate/Graduate Professional Education – Coordinators:  Sherry Jimenez and Sarah Zahl, Marian University, and NaShara Mitchell, IUPUI
  • High Impact Practices (First-Year, Learning Communities, Civic Engagement, Service Learning, Capstones, etc.) – Coordinators:  Sarah Baker, Julie Hatcher, and Kristin Norris, IUPUI
  • STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) Education – Coordinator:  Stephen Hundley, IUPUI
  • Student Affairs Programs and Services – Coordinators:  Rob Aaron, IUPUI and Katie Busby, Tulane University

Abstract Submission Dates:

  • All proposals are due by March 28, 2014
  • Notifications will be sent after  June 3, 2014
  • Participation confirmation due from all presenters on June 13, 2014 

Submission Guidelines:
We would be particularly pleased to receive proposals addressing any of the following tracks:

  • Accreditation
  • Assessment Methods
  • Community Colleges
  • ePortfolios
  • Faculty Development
  • General Education
  • Global Learning
  • Graduate/Graduate Professional Education
  • High Impact Practices
  • Institution-Wide Data Collection/Use
  • Major Fields
  • STEM Education
  • Student Affairs Programs and Services
  • Use of Technologies in Assessment 

The proposal format should include:

  • Your contact information
  • Title of your presentation
  • An abstract of 100 words or less in Word format
  • Your preferred format:
    • 60-minute interactive session
    • 20-minute presentation in 60-minute session shared with 1 other on similar topic
    • Poster (Poster sessions are held Monday, October 20 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.)
  • Primary track
  • Co-presenter information (name/institution/email),
  • 1-2 page extended description that includes:
    • 1-5 learning outcomes for the presentation
    • how participants will be involved in achieving these outcomes

Preference will be given in the selection process to those proposals that include information about assessment findings and their use to improve student learning and/or institutional processes or services.

If your proposal is accepted for a presentation at the Institute, you and your co-presenters are expected to pay registration fees and will be expected to register for the Institute prior to October 1 via the Institute website.

  • For those of you who have submitted proposals you will be notified after June 3, 2013 on the status of your proposal.
  • If your proposal is accepted for a presentation at the Institute, presenters and co-presenters are expected to pay registration fees and be expected to register for the Institute via the Institute website beginning in mid August 2014.
